New Ten-Piece Group Features Horn Section, Backing
Vocalists, and Rootsy Sound; Group to Hold Monthly Residency
at Little Brothers Second Tuesday of Each Month
Katz-n-Jammers is the new group put together by keyboardist,
vocalist, and guitarist Dave Katz of ekoostik hookah
in support of his solo CD, Autumn Day.
Released in 2004, Autumn Day offers another look into
Dave's songwriting and mixes horn arrangements and complex
vocal harmonies within the context of diverse musical
genres layered with his trademark down-to-earth lyrics.
Katz-n-Jammers will be performing the seecond Tuesday
of each month beginning 'Fat Tuesday', February 8. Cliff Starbuck and Chief Johnny Lonesome open the show at 8PM, Katz-n-Jammers begin at 9 PM, conclude
at 12:30am and play two full sets of music.
The Katz-n-Jammers band takes off in a live context
where the studio album ends, offering styles such as
bluegrass, rock, jazz, and pop as lift offs for wildly
intense improvisation and funky grooves. The rotation
of musicians constantly changes, keeping the flow of
the evening surprising and offering different ensembles
for different arrangements. Dave Katz leads the group
consisting of bassist/vocalist Cliff Starbuck of ekoostik
hookah, drummer Shane Frye formerly of The Shantee along
with a variety of musicians from the Columbus area.
Katz brings a trio of back-up singers, two female and
one male, to the shows to help in recreating the full
sound of his solo effort. In addition, Dan Cade performs
on fiddle and harmonica, Joe Crump and Fred Gablick
on saxophones and ekoostik hookah soundman Dan Mesnard
on lead guitar.
Along with the original compositions from Autumn Day
one can expect to hear a selection of classic cover
tunes ranging from Jim Croce to Carole King, Peter
Tosh to Stephen Stills, and an occasional ekoostik hookah
tune or two.
The upcoming performance at Little Brothers is Tuesday,
February 8 and begins at 9 PM sharp.
Doors open at 8 PM, the show is ages 18+, and tickets
are available at the door only for $10. Cliff Starbuck and Chief Johnny Lonesome open the show at 8PM SHARP.
