Ask The Band

q. Do you guys ever think you will go mainstream? -Mike G.
a. I think the mainstream is going to be a tributary that we don't really belong in. That being said, I think the alternate streams are getting bigger all the time and I would like to see hookah navigating the largest of those. And, as we learned in "Ghostbusters," we must be very cautious not to cross the streams unnecessarily. - Eric

q. Hey, why don't you play more shows closer to home? -Michelle M.
a. More shows closer to whose home? We have to keep moving to reach the folks that live "out there." Besides, we don't get profiled by the cops enough unless we travel. - Eric

q. Dear Ed, when are you gonna bust out that voicebox thing from "Do You Feel Like We DO?" again? - Sean K.
a. Hopefully someday soon. I enjoyed using the Talkbox immensely, but had problems with integrating it into my set-up on stage. Without getting too technical, it basically requires an extra amplifier (I used to borrow Steve's back-up amp), a switch to 'kill' the guitar signal to my amp and redirect it to the Talkbox, and an extra microphone set-up near my vocal mic. Problem was - I didn't want to be stealing Steve's amp all the time, the switch I had affected my general tone in a most unpleasant way, and we often don't have room for an extra mic set-up on stage. Thus, the Talkbox will reappear when I get an amp, a better switch, and some real estate on stage. - Ed

Dear Friends,

It's been an incredible month for ekoostik hookah. As if a rain-free Spring Hookahville wasn't enough, the band enjoyed great crowds during their brief western run before playing to a fantastic turnout at the 2003 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN.

But the summer is just getting started, really. With a July weekend at Nelson Ledges and August's Jerry's Birthday Bash at Sunshine Daydream, the wait until Fall Hookahville shouldn't be too hard to handle. With another eclectic line-up that includes an extended set by George Clinton & P-Funk, Steve Kimock Band and Dark Star Orchestra Acoustic, however, we're not claiming it'll be an easy wait.

And to help you get from here to there, Acoustic Productions, Inc. would like to invite you all to an acoustic holiday celebration at Frontier Ranch Music Center on Friday, July 4th. Come celebrate America's birthday with a down-home acoustic show from the old stage. Bring your acoustic instruments and family spirit for another weekend free of hassles and bad attitudes.

In the meantime, enjoy the weather and longer days of sunshine. Thanks for reading, and we'll be seeing you somewhere down the line.

July 4th Frontier Ranch Show Announced

API has announced An Acoustic Holiday Celebration to be held at Frontier Ranch Music Center on Friday, July 4. This special acoustic performance will feature an extended hookah set beginning at 6:00pm. Gates open at 10:00am on Friday, 7/4, and guests are welcome to stay throughout the weekend (though we wouldn't want to miss the three-set show at The Freedom Festival on Saturday if we were you). Plenty of surprises are in the works including a community campfire and camping next to your car (weather permitting). Tickets will be $25 and available at the gate.

Freedom Festival = Three Sets of hookah!

ekoostik hookah will be making a rare three-set appearance at the July 5th Freedom Festival in Acme, PA. Start your holiday weekend with an acoustic Friday at The Ranch, and conclude it with three sets at Freedom Fest (it's only three hours door-to-door).

ekoostik hookah Invades Bonnaroo!

We would like to thank everyone that attended last weekend's Bonnaroo Music Festival for the tremendous show of support. A special and sincere thank you goes to Melissa Hina for her hard work in organizing and distributing the mass Schwaheeleeroo, turning on hundreds of new fans in the process. hookah's set was a barn-burner in front of an overflow crowd, and fans were treated to Johnny Polansky jamming with The Wailers for their full set on
Saturday at The Main Stage.

For those that couldn't make it, hookah was well-represented at 2003's biggest music festival. In addition to thousands of Fall Hookahville fliers, attendees also walked away with Hookahville bumper stickers and limited edition t-shirts given away at the performance. The band was also represented on the Bonnaroo sampler cd (given free to the festival's 82,000 patrons) and in the music sharing tent, where Spiders, Bone, Abdega Gaga, A Better Man and Good Time from Spring Hookahville were available for download. hookah's entire catalog was also available at the on-site record store.

Spring Hookahville Review Round-up

Once again this year, Spring Hookahville has received nothing but positive feedback from the press. Here's a trio of reviews that do the festival justice:
