Ask The Band

q. I heard that tree painting was an old ritual among the inner sanctum of the band. Is this true or false? - Jim F.
a. Jim, You heard right. In fact, we've already painted most of the trees at Frontier Ranch. The trick is to paint them exactly the same color that they were before. - Cliff

q. I'm really lookin foward to this year's bash. I just was curious to know if there will be any late night music or workshops? - Will B.
a. Will, I am always involved in late night music on Saturday. I never really considered it a workshop, but last Fall there were two that I remember: 'How to Scream Like James Brown' and 'How to Improve the Tone of Your Instrument by Placing It In the Campfire'. That was a particularly crazy one, though. Usually it's just 'How to Play a Bunch of Songs You Don't Really Know'. - Cliff

Dear Friends,

Hookahville is upon us once again. With Early Bird Camping starting on Thursday at 4:00pm, we're literally hours away.

We're looking forward to seeing you all at yet another "no hassles or bad attitudes" event. In the spirit of Hookahvilles Past, we asked Dave Katz to share one of his distinct Hookahville remembrances with Schwa Mail, and he graciously obliged:

"It was a dark and dreary day at Hookahville. Seemed like it had been raining for weeks, months, maybe even years. Musicians came and went, trying to be heard over the incessant pounding of the raindrops. Then, all of the sudden the rain stopped. The skies cleared, the sun baked the crowd, and Willie Nelson appeared. Maybe Willie has a little thing going on with Mother Nature. Maybe she just really loves to hear that sweet voice of his. Maybe it just makes her smile to see him make so many others do the same. All I know is this: when he stopped playing, she started to cry again."
- Dave Katz

Thanks, Dave. Speaking of Spring 2001 and being prepared for the elements, we're pleased to offer our suggestions for your Hookahville packing list in this edition of Schwa Mail. Please double up on the trash bags, and keep Frontier Ranch as clean as you find it.

In addition to our updated festival calendar and Ask The Band questions, we've included several Hookahville-related items in the news section. Be sure to find out how you can participate in the Bugs In Your Teeth ride and charity golf event as well as Hookah Fans For Food's canned food drive.

Thank you all for your tremendous support and enthusiasm at this time of year. We'll be seeing you somewhere at The Ranch.
